Hi, I’m Kali Marco… a travel writer, journalist and translator based in Spain. I love travelling independently at home and across the world, discovering places of great beauty, seeing historical sites, and meeting people from different cultures along the way! Through KaliTravel blog I hope to share my experience with you.

The Costa Blanca (where I live)

Showing you the wonderful place where I live, the Costa Blanca in Spain! A major tourist destination, most Europeans will have heard of this beautiful stretch of Mediterranean coastline. We enjoy good weather, fabulous beaches and spectacular mountain scenery.

Seaside resorts include multicultural Benidorm with its skyscraper skyline and lively nightlife; Altea, a quaint whitewashed village popular with artists; Villajoyosa, a brightly painted fishing village once invaded by the Moors; Alicante city, a cruise ship destination, with its trendy marina, old town charm, tree-lined promenade and a great selection of restaurants.

Although I was born in London and brought up in the beautiful county of Devon in southwest England, I’ve lived on the Costa Blanca most of my life. There’s always something new to discover here or different to do… hiking in the mountains, walking through orange groves or along coastal paths, cycling routes, hidden coves, sea sports and much, much more!

Exploring the enthralling country where I live with my husband Juan, when we’re not travelling! Just as I find Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas fascinating, people from other continents will be amazed by Spain.

Sometimes called a mini-continent, Spain’s landscape and climate varies greatly from one region to another; high snow-capped mountains, the sunny Mediterranean, agricultural plains, lake districts, and historical cities (my favourites include Barcelona, Granada, Córdoba and Seville), not forgetting the fabulous Canary Islands.

This is a country with an extraordinary past, full of cultural interest and ancient monuments, combined with great cuisine, excellent wines and 21st century amenities!

Travelling around the World

Travelling the world across 5 continents! There are so many awesome places to see in the world… exotic destinations where scenery, architecture, culture, wildlife and the food, are far removed from our daily life.

Caribbean beaches, Himalayan mountains, the Amazons, Inca sites, Asian temples, Arctic landscapes, tropical jungles, deserts, waterfalls, volcanoes, World Heritage cities and beautiful nature reserves, are all out there waiting for us!

I write about the countries I visit from personal experience and include the photos I’ve taken for my blog posts. For example, Italy is one of our favourite destinations to explore in Europe, and we’ve travelled there extensively. Highlights of my self-planned around-the-world adventure include Nepal, India, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam (and that was only the first part of the trip!).

You’ll also find original articles by local experts on places that I haven’t been to yet (or haven’t visited in recent years). For me, this isn’t a race to see every country on the planet, it’s a travelling mindset and my way of life.
