Discovering Bali, capture the wonder of dawn breaking over the Indian Ocean, watch the sun rise over Sanur Beach.
Sanur is a popular resort, conveniently located on the southeastern coast of Bali, where you can find traditional, beachfront 4* accommodation with true Balinese atmosphere and hospitality. Endless sands fringe a shallow bay which is protected by an off-shore reef – the calm waters on the southeast coast are perfect for families coming to Bali with kids (if you’re looking for surf or nightlife, the west coast would be a better choice).
Up at the crack of dawn, I ran through our hotel’s silent gardens to the beach, pocket-camera in hand, ready to capture the sun rise over the Indian Ocean.
The tide was going out over the golden sands towards the reefs and a couple of local villagers were wading in the shallow water, fishing with rudimentary home-made rods. A few holidaymakers were jogging or cycling along the seven-kilometer beachside path, taking advantage of the fresh early morning air.
A dozen guys from Singapore appeared, with the same idea as me, and positioned their tripods and state-of-the-art cameras… the day’s first rays of sunshine appeared on the horizon highlighting the sky with hues of pink and blue, touching the distance volcano peaks and shimmering on the silver sea.
After a leisurely breakfast of tropical fruits, omelette, warm waffles and coffee served on the terrace overlooking the sea, we were ready to explore Bali and discover its rich cultural and religious heritage.
