There is a massive selection of accommodation in and around the town – campings or holiday apartments, and hotels ranging from cheap and cheerful to five star luxury! The mild climate attracts holidaymakers all year long making Benidorm one of the best winter destinations in Europe.

Playa Levante Beach

Playa Levante is the most popular beach in Europe! Three kilometres of golden sands, meticulously cleaned every night, no litter or beach bugs here, this is civilization! Sea activities include a cable ski attraction, floating raft platform, and the ever-popular pedaloes. There are several children’s play areas on the sand, a beach library, and facilities for the disabled.

The famous Levante promenade is traffic-free and pedestrian friendly, lined by an astonishing variety of lively cafeterias, restaurants and pubs – many with live music and dancing.

It’s a lively all-year-round holiday resort with something for everyone (the perfect place for a budget beach break out of season) with non-stop entertainment, a host of sporting events and musical concerts, and there’s usually some kind of festival going on.

Behind the seafront, you’ll find the Rincon de Loix area where the main hotels are located, gift shops, markets, kiddies’ funfair, mini-golf, and literally hundreds of pocket-friendly pubs (where you can watch live football on Sky Sports TV) as well as restaurants, cafés, bakeries, ice-cream parlours, etc.

With one of the best climates in Europe, this part of the Costa Blanca has the highest average annual temperatures in mainland Spain. Fabulous for a vacation any time of the year, the summers are invariably hot and sunny, while winters are pleasantly mild and warmer than the rest of Europe!

The surrounding countryside is ruggedly beautiful, great for an organized trip, a drive out, for walking, cycling or bikes. In fact, some of the best walks in Alicante Province are within a short drive of Benidorm. Mountains and valleys, almond blossom and orange groves, picturesque towns and villages and dozens of coastal resorts, are all within easy reach.

Benidorm Old Town

Benidorm old town lies between the Levante and Poniente beaches. Once a fishing village, there is a quaint church at the top, and a marvellous lookout point over the beaches and towards the island. The maze of narrow streets are filled with traditional restaurants serving seafood, tapas and cava, paella and sangria.

The leisure harbour is the place to book your sea outings. A cruise around the bay or to neighbouring coastal resorts, trips over to Benidorm Island in a glass-bottom boat, a day excursion to Tabarca Island, private yacht or powerboat hire, jet-ski, parasailing, banana boats, etc. There’s a nautical club and diving school too.

Benidorm Island is a protected marine reserve and a paradise for scuba diving on the Costa Blanca.

Cala de Mal Pas, a sandy cove sheltered by cliffs, directly behind the harbour, and locally known as the oven, is ideal in cooler months for a year-round suntan.

Poniente Beach

The busy beach area in front of the shady Elche ‘Dove’ park is wide and sandy. There’s beach games, senior keep-fit sessions, sun beds and shades, and disabled access facilities.

Three kilometres of immaculate sands and shallow transparent waters, Benidorm’s Poniente beach competes in beauty with Playa Levante, but wins hands-down on peacefulness and quality-time.

Walk a hundred metres along the landscaped, colourful designer promenade and you’ll escape the crowds. There’s always a frontline spot for your sun umbrella on the sands! Once again, there are kiddies’ play areas, a floating raft, life-savers on duty and a Red Cross post for your safety, disabled access facilities, beach volley nets…

The Poniente seafront is great for a stroll, or jogging, and it’s got a cycle path. Restaurants and cafés, line the way.

The Poniente bay ends at the quieter and exclusive La Cala, where you’ll find more restaurants, cocktail bars and cafeterias.

Sierra Helada

Off the tourist track, at the foot of the Sierra Helada cliffs, there are two small coves – Cala Tio Ximo and Cala Almadrava. They are great for scuba diving and snorkeling, or just for a quiet swim, and for naturists.

Between Benidorm and Altea bay, Sierra Helada, one of the most unique parts of the Costa Blanca coast, is a protected ecosystem natural park which encompasses the cliff area and marine reserve. The eight kilometre strenuous walk across the Sierra Helada to Albir lighthouse is worth the effort for the sensational views.

Or you can just walk up to the cross at Punta del Cavall; take your camera, the sunset over Benidorm is an unforgettable picture postcard experience.
